Technology Description:

Foxboro has marketed a very successful line of infrared (IR) portable and installed ambient air monitoring system in the Miran family of products. A new introduction has been the PLMS Open Path IR Flammable Gas Detection Systems.

Foxboro offers portable and installed continuous analyzers which are ideally suited to monitor the presence of most hazardous vapors in ambient air. These instruments help alleviate concerns regarding potentially life-threatening chemical exposure and help in prevention of fires, explosions, or equipment damage.

The PLMS Open Path IR Flammable Gas Detectors are designed to replace conventional catalytic and infrared point detectors. These systems can protect areas in line of sight up to 360 feet with one system. They detect the presence of gas immediately and can quantify the gas cloud to further protect a plant.
Performance Status/
Limitations:

Performance Status:

The PLMS Open Path IR Flammable Gas Detectors have been extremely successful in off shore applications and in gas and oil refineries. Over 1800 are in virtually flawless operation in the North Sea, protecting hundreds of off shore platforms.

          Limitations:

A limitation of the system is if a compound being analyzed does not appear in the computer library. however, new compounds can be added at any given time.

The PLMS Open Path IR Flammable Gas Detectors occasionally loss alignment. Other potential interferences include direct sunlight into the receiver and loss of signal due to dense fog or heavy rain.
