The United States Geological Survey (USGS) maintains national digital databases (1985 & 1990) of water-use information compiled from State site-specific data, as well as water-use maps and graphics. The data are collected by various local, state, and federal agencies, and are compiled every five years for each State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
National data-file sets are available by states, counties, water-resources region, water-resources subregion, water-resources accounting units, and water-resources cataloging units. State data-file sets are available by county, water-resources subregion, water-resources accounting units, and water-resources cataloging units.
How To Access The Data
Files can be downloaded free-of-charge from the USGS Water-Use Data Web site listed below. Data are available for 1985 and 1990 in plain ASCII, compressed MSDOS, and compressed UNIX formats. Users can also download choropleth maps, pie charts, and other miscellaneous graphics and files. Some of the data files and the PostScript graphics files can be very large and may take a long time to download.
