Technology Description:

Microbial Environmental Services (an ATC Company) (MES) uses bioremediation technologies for treating contaminated soils. Advanced Biological Surface Treatment (ABST) is used to treat excavated contaminated soil on the surface. Nutrients are added to enhance the growth of a targeted population of naturally occurring microorganisms. These microorganisms will break down the contaminant to harmless components such as carbon dioxide and water. ABST technology uses a "burrito type" of lining to prevent the volatilization of the contaminant. The systems are designed to operate in batch or semi-batch mode.

          MES performance advantages are the result of site-specific design of biotreatment system and the implementation of intensive quality control and optimized process methodologies. Our on-site bioremediation technologies do not result in the release of volatile organics into the air or allow the leaching of contaminant into the subsurface. Benefits unique to our microbial technologies versus other forms of non-biological remediation include quiet operation, quick and complete degradation of organic contaminants, as well as being competitively priced. In addition, our process uses only those microorganisms found on site as the contaminant degraders.
