Abstract:

The following climate products are available, and produced by the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC):

Selective Guide to Climatic Data Source: This Guide was prepared by NCDC/National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). It was designed to assist potential users of climatological information by acquainting them with the various forms in which weather data are archived and the products that are prepared from these data. Detailed information is presented on 200 separate files of publications, manuscript and autographic records, charts, digital data, and satellite imagery.

A Dust Climatology of the Western United States: This one-time publication was prepared by the NCDC/NESDIS for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Data for 180 selected cities for the years 1948 through 1977 were used for the analyses. Maps are presented depicting annual number of dust episodes, dust-episode durations, season of occurrence, and probability of thunderstorm inducement.

Climatic Atlas of the United States: This atlas, last published in 1963, presents monthly and annual climatic maps and tables of various weather and atmospheric parameters for the United States.

Climatic Study of the Near Coastal Zone: There are currently nine separate publications in this file which were prepared by NCDC/NESDIS for the U.S. Navy, Naval Oceanography Command. The areas covered by each publication are 1) East Coast of the United States, 2) West Coast of the United States, 3) Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, 4) Malacca and Sunda Straits, 5) Red Sea South and Gulf of Aden, 6) Southern California Operating Area, and 7) the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico in three volumes.

Historical Climatology Series 3-1 through 3-12: Charts which depict the areal distribution of climate elements or parameters are often used in studies of climate variability. The atlases in this file are designed to provide maps of climatological parameters which show climatic fluctuations in a relatively long-term or historical context. They cover the contiguous United States from 1895 through 1983. The analyses can be on a local, regional, or continental scale. These atlases, which are prepared and published by NCDC/NESDIS, are updated periodically.
