Abstract:

EXTOXNET is a cooperative effort of University of California-Davis, Oregon State University, Michigan State University, and Cornell University. The EXTOXNET Infobase contains various types of pesticide toxicology and environmental chemistry information, including: Pesticide Information Profiles (PIPs); Toxicology Information Briefs (TIBs); discussions of toxicology issues of concern (TICs); toxicology newsletters and factsheets; and other resources for toxicology information. The following are examples of the contents of the PIPs and the TIBs:

          Pesticide Information Profiles
          TRADE OR OTHER NAMES
          USES
          TOXICOLOGICAL EFFECTS
          ACUTE AND CHRONIC TOXICITY
          REPRODUCTUVE, TERATOGENIC, AND MUTAGENIC EFFECTS
          CARCINOGENIC EFFECTS: tumors
          ORGAN TOXICITY
FATE IN HUMANS AND ANIMALS: absorption in mammals, ingestion, skin, lungs, blood, liver, kidney, lungs, spleen, muscle, brain, placenta, uterus, placenta, fetus, amniotic fluid
          ECOLOGICAL EFFECTS: toxicity, LD50
ENVIRONMENTAL FATE: half-life in turf and soils, leaching, aquatic environments, sunlight, effects of oxygen, plant growth processes, plant uptake routes, persistence, breakdown in plants, biological and chemical pathways
          DIOXIN CONTAMINATION
EXPOSURE GUIDELINES: NOEL (rats), ADI, MCL, HA, TLV-TWA, TLV STEL, Dangerous Exposure, RfD, LEL,
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES: CAS #, Chemical Name, Chemical class/use, Solubility in water, Solubility in other solvents, Melting Point, Vapor Pressure, Partition Coefficient

          Glossary
          Manifestations of Toxic Effects
Movement of Pesticides in the Environment
How Much Is a Part Per Million?
          Pesticides by Group
          Pesticide Regulation
          Risk Assessment
          Standards
Index of Trade Names of Pesticides

Users can search the Infobase by keyword, or browse on the individual topic areas listed above. Factsheets can be accessed on a number of pesticides which contain a general description of the pesticide, toxicological effects, ecological effects, environmental fate information, physical properties, and manufacturer information.

          How To Access The Data

The EXTOXNET Infobase is a free online database which can be accessed through a standard web browser from its server at Oregon State University.
