Abstract:

Northern Hemisphere/North American surface weather charts, North American weather depiction charts, U.S. winds aloft charts, daily weather maps, and U.S. radar summary charts.

Northern Hemisphere surface charts: The analyzed surface weather charts in this file are prepared by the National Weather Service, National Meteorological Center. The charts are analyzed at 4-millibar intervals, surface land and surface-marine data are plotted, and pressure systems and fronts are depicted. These charts are available from May 1, 1954 through the present.

North American surface charts: The analyzed surface weather charts in the file are prepared by the National Weather Service, National Meteorological Center. The charts are analyzed at 4-millibar intervals, station data are plotted, and pressure systems and fronts are depicted. These charts are available from March 1, 1942 through the present. Some of these charts from 1942 through 1953 are analyzed for the United States only.

Weather-depiction analysis charts: These surface charts for the conterminous United States, Southern Canada, and Northern Mexico are computer-plotted and analyzed manually at 3-hour intervals. They are prepared by the National Weather Service, National Meteorological Center. The analyses include areas of instrument flight rule (IFR), marginal visual flight rule (MVFR), and visual flight rule (VFR) flying conditions. These charts are available from January 1, 1976 through the present.

Winds-aloft charts: These plotted charts show various upper air levels of the United States; they are produced two and sometimes four times daily by the NationalWeather Service, National Meteorological Center. These charts are available from March 1, 1942 through the present.

Daily weather maps weekly: This publication file includes the former U.S. Weather Bureau Daily Weather Map series from January 1899 through December 1959 and subsequent National Weather Service Daily Weather Map-Weekly series from January 1960 through the present. The Climate Analysis Center offers one-year subscriptions to this weekly publication.

Radar-summary charts: The radar summary charts in this file are analyzed hourly and prepared by the National Weather Service, National Meteorological Center. The analyses include areas, lines, and cells of radar detected precipitation aloft with the height of the base and tops, and their movement and intensity. These charts for the contiguous United States are available from March 1, 1957 through the present.
