Technology Description:

The MicroFID is a Flame Ionization Detection (FID) hand-held portable instrument which measures total VOC concentrations in emissions from hazardous waste sites, pre and post remediation, petroleum contaminated soils, especially in connection with leaking underground storage tanks, and leaks and spills.

The MicroFID has a technologically innovative design when compared to other technologies of this detector type. Some salient features in this respect are as follows:

          - MicroFID is the smallest and lightest FID available.
          - Datalogging is built-in. No external datalogger is required.
          - A built-in Tutorial key allows the new user to quickly become familiar with operation of the instrument.
          - Intrinsically Safe Class 1, Division 1 Groups A, B, C, and D.
          - Built-in Diagnostics
          - Integrated EPA Method 21 Windows based software package.

MicroFID weighs 8.1 lbs. and is hand carried to site locations.

The fuel gas tank for the FID is built into the base of the handle and can be filled from an external supply using the supplied filling adapter.

The battery, which is rechargeable, provides power for 15 hours of field use. The battery also "snaps on" and is replaceable.

The operating principle of the MicroFID is as follows. The built-in pump draws sample into the FID where the sample is mixed with hydrogen and burned in air between two electrodes. Ions are collected on an electrode having a potential difference with respect to the hydrogen jet. The current measured at the electrode is proportional to the mass flow rate of the sample component. The concentration of total VOC in PPM is shown on the built-in Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).

MicroFID allows trouble-free measurement of soil gases in those cases where the Response-Factor consistency of an FID is mandatory or where Methane must be included in the total reading.

The Operating Concentration Range is 0.1 to 50,000 PPM.

          A built-in water/dust filter prevents expensive accidents.

MicroFID is classified as Intrinsically Safe Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, and D.

MicroFID is available with an Integrated EPA Method 21 Windows based software package.

The MicroFID is portable and does continuous monitoring.
Performance Status/
Limitations:
