NSSI/Recovery Services operates a hazardous, mixed, and radioactive waste treatment and storage facility that can accept waste types such as: radioactives/mixed wastes, naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM), wastewaters, contaminated soils, organics, inorganics, paint sludges, reactives, pesticides, heavy metals, halogenated and nonhalogenated solvents, acids, caustics, oils, and lab packs. All EPA hazardous waste codes can be accepted at the facility. Waste treatment disposal technologies used at the facility include: pyrolysis, distillation, neutralization, evaporation, wet oxidation, oxidation/reduction, solidification/stabilization, precipitation, and mercury retort.
The facility is operating under an approved RCRA Part B Permit and can accept CERCLA wastes.
Per special USEPA approval, facility personnel can operate equipment of any type at the site. This capability allows researchers to conduct experiments and have new equipment designs tested. Other services offered at the facility include: vessel cleaning, solvent recovery, and consulting.
For waste streams to be accepted at the facility, the wastes must be profiled by the generator, analyzed for the required parameters, and formally accepted by the facility.
