Abstract:

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is part of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). OSHA develops and promulgates occupational safety and health standards; develops and issues regulations; and conducts investigations and inspections to determine the status of compliance with safety and health standards and regulations.

OSHA and its state partners have inspectors, complaint discrimination investigators, engineers, physicians, educators, standards writers, and other technical and support personnel spread over more than 200 offices throughout the country. This staff establishes protective standards, enforces those standards, and reaches out to employers and employees through technical assistance and consultation programs designed to stimulate management commitment and employee participation in comprehensive workplace safety and health programs.
