DEMtoDXF Translator is a standalone DOS translator for accessing USGS Digital Elevation Model Data. The USGS is producing DEM data at a variety of scales including 1:24000 DEM, 1:100,000 DEM, 1:250,000 DEM, Alaska Hi Res DEM, and Alaska Lo Res DEM. All of these DEM data resources are made accessible with the DEMtoDXF Translator.
Output formats include AutoCAD DXF 3D Polyline profiles, AutoCAD DXF 3D Face surface models, and ASCII XYZ. The resulting AutoCAD DXF files are compatible with AutoCAD r10,r11,r12, and r13. In addition, most CAD and graphics programs can access the DXF format. The ASCII XYZ format is generally used for interfacing to engineering and contouring packages.
The DEMtoDXF Translator may be used interactively with onscreen choice menus or in DOS batch mode with command line parameter settings. Subset clipping is also possible by specifying clipping corners for lower left and upper right corners.
At this time 1:24000 DEM is available for about 60% of the United States.
