The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) regulates and establishes environmental standards and protects and enhances the environment through divisions such as: Air; Water; Hazardous Waste; and Groundwater and Solid Waste. The MPCA makes available guidance on a number of topics through links at their World Wide Web site. Linking on "General Publications" provides users with a listing of printed brochures, booklets, fact sheets and teacher information which are available in limited quantities by contacting the MPCA Public Information Office. These publications are divided into general interest, air quality, hazardous waste, solid waste, groundwater pollution, and water quality.
Many guidance documents are available online at the MPCA web site in .pdf format. (These documents require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view. Acrobat Reader can be downloaded at no cost by clicking on the "Get Acrobat Reader" button at the bottom of the EnviroSources home page.) Individuals can utilize their web browser to view and download MPCA guidance in the following areas:
Publications about Air Quality - online fact sheets about air permitting and potential to emit (PTE) for maintenance activities. Also includes online issues of The Finish Line, a quarterly newsletter for the wood finishing industry.
Publications about Clean Up - online emergency response fact sheets; underground storage tank (UST) and aboveground storage tank (AST) release cleanup guidance documents; and underground and aboveground storage tank compliance fact sheets.
Publications about Waste - online fact sheets dealing with hazardous waste transportation and disposal, management of certain hazardous and special wastes (solvents, PCB ballasts, fluorescent lamps, antifreeze, used oil, etc.), household chemicals and chemical substitutes.
Publications about Water - online fact sheets dealing with water-related issues such as water quality, pollution control, permits, and sewage; online technical guidance documents providing guidance on groundwater sampling, wastewater treatment plants, stabilization ponds, and sludge processing. Users can also access an online newsletter (Ground Water and Solid Waste Connection).
Legislative Fact Sheets - current online fact sheets on a variety of topics, such as waste management, contaminated site cleanup, hazardous product labeling, USTs, air standards, Superfund, used oil recycling, and more.
