The Mississippi Small Business Ombudsman and Technical Assistance Program is a non-regulatory, free, and confidential assistance service to help small businesses obtain information on regulatory issues and technical assistance, assist in completing applications and other reporting documents, resolving disputes between small businesses and air pollution control authorities, disseminate information on upcoming regulations, and evaluate proposed environmental regulations. Mississippi's program is comprised of three key components: the Small Business Assistance Program (SBAP) , which provides technical and compliance assistance to small businesses; the Small Business Ombudsman, whose function is to aid in the implementation of the CAA and represent the interests of small business stationary sources as those interests relate to the implementation of the CAA; and the Compliance Advisory Panel, which has been established by statute to provide oversight and determine the overall effectiveness of the program.
The SBAP is a branch of the Environmental Resource Center, which is housed in the MDEQ at Southport Center. Staff dedicated to the SBAP perform under the direction of the head of the Environmental Resource Center, who ensures interaction of technical staff from other air pollution control areas and activities related to permitting and compliance monitoring and maintenance of air quality.
