Abstract:

A broad array of data obtained from earthquakes categorized in data bases, archived by National Geophysical Data Center. These collections are valuable resources for scientists concerned with the study of the Earth, engineers involved with controlling earthquake damage, and the layperson who is interested in learning more about natural hazards.

Numerous datum, accuracies, resolution and sources are available from data bases including the following:
        • The Earthquake Data Base contains information on date, origin, time of event, location of event, depth, magnitude, maximum intensity and related phenomena.
        • Significant Earthquakes contains information on global events which meet specified criteria.
        • The Earthquake Intensity File details reports on U.S. earthquakes.
        • Seismograph Station Bulletins contain information on the characteristics of recording instruments at any given station and whether events were recorded at that station.
        • Strong Motion Accelograph records document the triggering event, station characteristics and peak recorded ground motion.
