The DEP Office of Ombudsman was established to ensure improved communication with the general public. The office exists to help the public with agency issues, foster effective and open communication and promote the DEP as responsive and user friendly.
The Ombudsman:
- Acts as a liaison between the public and the department
- Assists with referrals and answers general questions about the Department and its programs
- Helps callers locate the appropriate office so they aren't transferred from office to office
- Serves as a kind of early warning system to identify trends in the number or type of problems the Department is having with issues or programs and recommends ways to resolve problems before they escalate.
