Overview of State Regulations
Wisconsin has promulgated state asbestos regulations that are similar to the federal regulations. Cities and counties may have their own asbestos requirements. The state is NESHAP-delegated by the EPA Region 5.
State/Federal Agencies Involved with the State Asbestos Program
The following agencies/entities have asbestos-related regulatory and enforcement responsibilities in Wisconsin:
A. The Wisconsin Department of Health and Family Services, Division of Health, Bureau of Public Health (contact phone (608) 267-2297, general phone (608) 261-6876) is involved in the following state/federal asbestos enforcement/requirements:
- training courses - The state training course program for asbestos personnel is fully approved by the EPA Region 5.
- certifications - individuals
- pre-abatement notifications/approvals
- AHERA/schools
- site audits/inspections.
