Geologic maps (mostly multicolored) on topographic or planimetric bases; various scales; show bedrock geology, stratigraphy, and structural relations in certain coal resource areas.
The C Series is used to present data relating to the origin, characteristics, and resource potential of coal deposits. Typical products consist of a geologic map, with structure contours if appropriate, cross sections columnar sections and measured sections of coal zones. Most maps highlight the distribution of coal beds. Some C-Series maps only show the coal beds, whereas others are also general-purpose geologic maps. The area covered may be either a single quadrangle, part of a quadrangle, or parts of several quadrangles, and the data can be presented at any scale. The most common formats are individual 7 1/2- minute and 30- by 60- minute quadranges. C-Series maps are accompanied by a description of map units, and some are also accompanied by a supplemental text.
