Abstract:

The AQUIRE database contains information obtained from aquatic toxicity testing. Each toxicity test record contains information about the test chemical, species, effect endpoint, concentrations, and conditions under which the test was conducted. The system presently contains data on more than 2800 marine and freshwater organisms and 5,670 environmental chemicals, extracted from over 7000 publications. Data recorded for each test includes: Chemical Name, CAS Registration #, Species Scientific & Common Name, Test Concentration, Effect, Endpoint, Water Temperatures, Controls, Life Stage, Confidence Interval, Literature Citation and more.

Scientific papers published both nationally and internationally on the toxic effects of chemicals to aquatic organisms and plants are collected and reviewed for AQUIRE. Toxicity test results and related testing information for any individual chemical from laboratory and field aquatic toxicity tests are extracted and added to AQUIRE. Acute, sublethal, and bioconcentration effects are recorded for freshwater and marine organisms.

          How To Access The Data

Access to the AQUIRE database is available from EPA without cost to all government entities and their contractors. Private organizations and individuals may obtain access to AQUIRE through commercial database vendors such as Technical Database Services, Inc. or Chemical Information Systems, Inc.
