Technology Description:

The Sentry 200 Environmental Moisture Monitor (EMM) System provides leak detection for landfills, lagoons and other waste storage facilities. The probes are permanently buried underneath a waste site and the moisture is read at the surface.

The operating technique of the Sentry 200 EMM System is that of Frequency Domain Technology. The moisture probe resonates at a harmonic frequency which is dependent upon the average dielectric constant of the material around the moisture probe. The dielectric constant of water is typically about 80, while the dielectric constant of most soils is about 5. By measuring the harmonic frequency of the probe, the average moisture content can be determined through a predetermined calibration.

This moisture probe remains buried underneath the waste site and can update the moisture readings in as little as 0.5 seconds in a continuous mode or can take readings at any programmed interval time. While the probes are buried in situ, the reading system can be portable or in situ.
Performance Status/
Limitations:

Performance Status:

The Sentry 200 EMM System has been successfully used in the moisture monitoring of a municipal waste site. It has been in use in agricultural (irrigation) and other moisture measuring applications since 1991. Over 1,000 moisture probes have been delivered.

          Limitations:

The Sentry 200 EMM moisture probe measures a volume of approximately 1.5 liters. The probe must be installed during the waste containment site construction. The probe should be installed 3 feet above the highest ground water level to ensure that the Sentry 200 EMM System is not measuring groundwater, but rather leachate.

The Sentry 200 EMM moisture probe should be kept 12 inches away from metals.
