The process utilizes downhole burners for in-situ soil treatment. Fossil burners are used typically, but the burner type and design depend on applications.

          Catalytic combustors are also available. Hot gas generators are available for ex situ treatment of sludge and sediment. For off-gas treatment, vapor will be collected and condensed to select recovered components.

          1. Equipment is commercially available for pilot testing and actual site remediation.

          Limitations:

          The technology is not effective for treatment of radioactive materials and certain heavy metals.
