The TRI database contains information about the estimated annual amounts of potentially hazardous chemicals released to the environment. This information is based upon data submitted to the EPA from industrial facilities around the country. This database contains the names and addresses of facilities, along with the amounts of certain toxic chemicals estimated to have been released to the land, water, or air.
How To Access The Data
TRI can be accessed from several sources:
- It is available free of charge using a standard web browser through the Web site listed below, which contains links to the Right -To-Know (RTK) Net web page and EPA's Envirofacts web page. Although access to TRI through RTK Net and Envirofacts is free, searching may be somewhat limited for advanced users.
- The database is also available online through subscription to NLM's TOXNET in a format that allows all fields in TRI to be searched.
- TRI is available for purchase on CD-ROM, diskette, magnetic tape, and hard copy report from the Government Printing Office (GPO). Searching TRI on CD-ROM can be very flexible, but may not be as up-to-date as online searching through RTK Net, Envirofacts, or TOXNET.
