The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is the standards institute for the United States. ANSI does not produce standards, but rather reviews and approves standards put forth by other organizations. Only those standards that meet the requirements of ANSI are approved and assigned an ANSI designation. ANSI is the US representative to the International Standards Organization (ISO).
An annual catalog published by ANSI contains a topical index followed by a comprehensive listing of the approved American National Standards available for purchase from ANSI. It also contains information about other publication and services available from ANSI. Standards are listed alphabetically by the sponsoring agency (e.g. API, ASTM, ISO, etc.), and then numerically by standard number within each sponsoring agency's list of standards. Each entry contains the title and ANSI list price of the standard, and information is given on how to purchase standards from ANSI. Only those standards approved by ANSI are listed. Sponsoring agencies may have other standards not approved by ANSI which do not appear in this catalog. A printed copy of this catalog can be requested at no cost from ANSI.
This catalog is also available online at the ANSI World Wide Web site. The online ANSI Catalog includes a searchable database of the over 11,000 approved American National Standards, all of which are available for purchase from ANSI. Users can search on subject keywords such as environmental, sampling, analytical testing, groundwater, etc.
