Abstract:

Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) provides abstracts and indexes for scientific research literature. CSA's Internet Database Service (IDS) is a subscription-based online service which provides access to over 35 databases published by CSA and several publishing partners. These databases cover a broad range of subjects in the area of Aquatic Sciences, Medical and Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer Sciences and Engineering Specialties, and Materials Sciences. Some of the databases contained in the IDS include:

          Aquatic Pollution & Environmental Quality - An abstracts database devoted exclusively to research and policy on the contamination of oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and estuaries.

          Agricultural & Environmental Biotechnology Abstracts - This database covers agricultural products involving both plants and animals, new applications across the food industry, and wide-ranging environmental developments.

          Environmental Sciences & Pollution Management - This database offers abstracts to the worldwide literature covering all aspects of the environmental sciences, including: air, land, water and noise pollution; bacteriology; ecology; toxicology; risk assessment; environmental biotechnology and engineering; waste management; water resources; policies and regulations; and U.S. federal environmental impact statements (EISs).

          API Encompass:Environment - Addressing pollution and control issues affecting the petroleum, natural gas and petrochemical industries, this database provides abstracts and citations to worldwide technical literature.

          EIS: Digests of Environmental Impact Statements - Providing concise, readable abstracts, this database presents key issues from complex U.S. government-released environmental impact statements (EISs).

          Environmental Engineering Abstracts - This database covers pollution control and waste management issues, with an emphasis on technological and engineering aspects of maintaining air and water quality, environmental safety, and alternative energy sources.

          EMAJ: Environmental Health & Pollution Control - This electronic abstract journal covers all aspects of air, water, and soil pollution, noise hindrance and radioactivity (as related to the general environment).

          Pollution Abstracts - Covers scientific research pertaining to all forms of pollution, including land, air, water, waste, radioactive material and toxic emissions, and noise.

          Risk Abstracts - This database encompasses risk arising from environmental, industrial, technological, and other sources, with an emphasis on risk assessment and management.

          Toxicology Abstracts - Contains information on toxicology studies across a wide range of substances, including industrial and agricultural chemicals, household products, pharmaceuticals, and myriad other substances.

          Water Resources Abstracts - This database provides information about water resource issues covering the characteristics, control and management of water resources.

          How To Access The Data

          Access to IDS is through subscription to CSA, which offers several pricing options depending on the range of file coverage and level of access needed. Users can subscribe to all databases as a package or to individual databases, as desired. CSA has an online registration form at their World Wide Web site for requesting a trial subscription and an IDS demonstration.
