Clor-D-Tect 1000 and Clor-D-Tect Q4000 are two test kits designed to test used oil for the presence of chlorinated compounds. Clor-D-Tect 1000 is a go, no-go test at 1000 ppm. Clor-D-Tect Q4000 is a quantitative test that works over the range of 200 to 4000 ppm. Each individual test kit performs one analysis and contains everything that is required to complete the test. The test can be completed in less than five minutes and is designed to be used by anyone. Clor-D-Tect provides a colorimetric end point after reacting the chlorinated materials in the sample with a metallic sodium reagent which converts all organic chlorine into inorganic chloride. Clor-D-Tect is EPA approved and has been assigned a method number of 9077. The test kit can fit in a pocket and is completely portable and self-contained. |

Clor-D-Tect test kits have been in use since 1987. They are used successfully on site for used oil pick up as well as in the laboratory. They have been assigned SW-846 method number 9077 by EPA's Office of Solid Waste. An ASTM method (D-5384) has also been designed around the Clor-D-Tect kits.
Limitations:
Oil samples must contain less than 20% water, alcohols, and aldehydes. Susceptible to positive bias from high levels of sulfur (>5%).
