Abstract:

The Solar Backscan Ultraviolet Radiometer (SBUV)/2 was designed to map the total ozone concentrations and vertical distribution of ozone in the Earth's atmosphere. The SBUV/2 instrument measures solar radiation in 12 discrete bands in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum (252 to 339 nanometers). The SBUV/2 is made up of two distinct instruments, the Cloud Cover Radiometer (CCR) and the scanning double monochromator. The monochromator samples the solar radiation backscattered in the ultraviolet in 12 distance bands. The CCR measures radiation just outside the ozone absorption band and was designed to measure the reflectively of the surface in the field of view of the instrument. The Level 1B data set contains all sensor data, support data files for the derivation of atmospheric ozone and solar flux, instrument in-flight calibration prelaunch calibration and other necessary information. The data have been reprocessed and are available in both the reprocessed and original data sets.
