Technology Description:

Tracer Research Corporation has developed and commercialized a method of detecting and locating leaks or possible leaks from all types of containment or fluid transport systems, such as storage tanks, transfer piping, and plastic containment liners (such as for landfills).

Tracer Research Corporation installs a network of sampling ports near the tanks, piping, or other objects to be tested. A patented volatile chemical tracer is added to the system. Samples from the ports are analyzed in a mobile laboratory. Positive results indicate the presence and approximate locations of any leaks in the systems. Leak Detection is sensitive, reliable and applicable to systems that are in or out of service.
Performance Status/
Limitations:

Performance Status:

Tracer Tight has been used as the method of leak detection for fuel storage and distribution systems at almost all US Air Force Bases. It has been applied to thousands of Large Aboveground Storage Tanks and Large Underground Storage Tanks. It has also successfully been applied to hazardous waste sewer systems and landfill liners.

          Limitations:

This method of leak detection usually relies on the vapor transport of the tracer to the detection location. Pathways, such as soil porosity, for transport of the tracer is usually required.

Releases of light, water immiscible fluids may be detected below water since the fluid floats to the top of the water. Such fluids include air & petroleum fluids. The tracer is usually collected as a vapor in an air sample.
