VITA is a private, nonprofit organization engaged in international development. Since its inception in 1959, VITA has been committed to helping people in developing countries improve the quality of their lives through the collection, distillation, and transfer of information.
VITAcomm, their advanced communications system, allows global information resources, including a volunteer roster of over 5,000 experts in a variety of fields, to participate in a timely dialogue for development. This knowledge network enhances VITA's field projects, which, in turn, provide experience and generate information that can enhance development efforts worldwide. In short -- through its varied information, communications, and field program activities and services -- VITA extends the benefits of modern science and technology by enabling people in even the most remote areas to join the mainstream of development.
