The Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is an independent, impartial and not-for-profit organization that has devoted itself to testing for public safety. UL evaluates thousands of different products, components, materials, and systems. UL Standards for Safety contain the technical requirements that products must meet to become eligible to bear a UL mark. A free Catalog of Standards for Safety is available. This catalog contains a complete list of UL's standards, along with pricing and ordering information. A printed copy of the catalog can be requested free-of-charge through Global Engineering Documents. Hardcopy or electronic copies of individual UL standards are also available for purchase from Global. Users can also subscribe to a Standards Subscription Service to obtain printed or electronic versions of standards over a three year period.
UL maintains a Standards Electronic Bulletin Board System (SEBBS). Users can subscribe to SEBBS and obtain a variety of information, such as:
Standards Update -- check out the weekly update on recently issued new editions, proposed Standards, Outlines of Investigation and bulletins; revision history of all current UL Standards; and announcements of upcoming effective dates.
Catalog of Standards -- download the 1996 edition and get the complete list of all UL Standards.
Scope of current UL Standards -- includes the scope of each current UL Standard so users can determine if a Standard applies to their product.
Information Technology Equipment Conference -- get access to application guidelines and industry bulletins for UL 1950 as well as international certification information for information technology equipment.
International Compliance Bulletin Board -- tap into UL's international conformity assessment expertise with the latest from the compliance world, including information on the European directives and CE marking.
General information -- provides a list of the services available from the UL Standards Department.
