Abstract:

The Ocean Data Evaluation System (ODES) is an information management system housing marine and freshwater monitoring data. The system contains monitoring data pertaining to water quality, oceanographic descriptions, sediment pollutants, physical/chemical characteristics, biological characteristics, and estuary information. The data in ODES are provided by publicly owned treatment works (POTWs). The system has a suite of analytical tools that can generate graphs, maps, and statistics. ODES was developed to provide EPA managers and analysts with marine and fresh water monitoring data to assist in meeting the 301(h) sewage discharge requirements.

          How To Access The Data

ODES is available on EPA's mainframe. There are no access fees for EPA employees or contractors. The general public can access ODES by establishing an account through the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) and obtaining an EPA mainframe account and user id. Access to EPA's mainframe computer is via modem or telnet to nccibm.rtpnc.epa.gov. Some portions of the database are not available to the public. A monthly usage fee is charged by NTIS for all accounts regardless of use. Hourly processing charges for EPA's mainframe computers apply only when the database is accessed.
