The IRIS database contains summaries of health risk and EPA regulatory information on nearly 700 specific substances. It is intended for environmental health professionals who deal with risk issues on a regular basis. IRIS contains the EPA consensus opinion on potential chronic human health effects related to chemical hazard identification and dose-response assessment. The core of IRIS is a collection of computer files that contain descriptive and quantitative information such as: oral reference dose and inhalation reference concentrations for noncarcinogens; oral and inhalation carcinogen assessments; drinking water health advisories; EPA regulatory action summaries; and data on acute health hazards.
Access to this database is available in several formats. Free online access is avaiable at the Web site listed above. The data can also be purchased from the National Library of Medicine TOXNET, SOLUTIONS Software Corporation, and NTIS.
