SCI-TEC Instruments is the exclusive North American representative for the Siemens HAWK-Long Range Gas Monitor.

          The HAWK system can be installed in fixed or transportable configurations to project infrared light beams around, over, under or through the area to be monitored. Target gas entering the infrared light beam is detected and measured by the system.

          The HAWK is designed to continuously detect and measure gas concentrations directly in the atmosphere. It achieves this through the absorption of infrared radiation and a novel patented wavelength modulation technique. This unique technique enables the HAWK to monitor a gas of interest in the presence of other gasses, such as water vapor and atmospheric methane which represent an interference for conventional systems.

          The HAWK monitoring system measures the infrared radiation returned by a reflector array.

          It registers the product of the average gas concentration and path length and can function at distances ranging typically from 10 to 350 meters.

          For most hydrocarbon gasses, the HAWK will detect each gas in terms of Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) concentration, averaged over the measured path, and will indicate in units of LEL meters. The equipment can also be configured to detect very low concentrations of hydrocarbons measured in Parts Per Million (PPM). This detection and that of toxic gasses is expressed in terms of Parts Per Million - Meters (PPM-M).
Performance Status/
Limitations:

The HAWK system is gas specific. Each unit is built for detection of a target gas. Units can be converted from use with one gas to use with another gas by a trained technician.

          The HAWK system is limited to line of site operations, however mirrors can be used to direct the infrared beam around obstructions.

          In typical installations range is limited to 350 meters. Ranges to 600 meters are possible with some target gasses.
