The Solvent Alternatives Guide (SAGE) was developed by the Surface Cleaning Program at Research Triangle Institute in cooperation with the U.S. EPA Air Pollution Prevention and Control Division (APPCD). SAGE is a computer-based information system designed to provide pollution prevention information on solvent and process alternatives for parts cleaning and degreasing. SAGE works as both an expert system that will evaluate various process and chemistry alternatives for a particular situation and as a hypertext manual on cleaning alternatives. Users can access SAGE through the SAGE World Wide Web site, which contains the following links:

General System Information: Information on how SAGE works, server statistics, the people behind SAGE, and how to download the standalone versions of SAGE.

In addition to web site access, users may download the standalone versions of SAGE for DOS, Windows, and Macintosh. The standalone versions all have equivalent information and do not provide any additional functionality over the Web site. They are provided for use on machines without Web access or for users who must pay expensive connection charges.
