The International Standards Organization (ISO) is an international federation of standards bodies from 111 member countries. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is the United States representative to the ISO. The ISO is dedicated to promoting standardization in order to facilitate international trade. ISO has developed the ISO 14000 Series of standards which provide specific requirements for environmental management. ISO 14001 is a specification which an organization may be certified against - based on the organization's environmental management system (EMS). The main elements of an EMS are: Policy; Planning; Implementation and Operation; Checking and Corrective Actions; and Management Review. |
