Overview of State Regulations

          Nebraska has adopted the federal asbestos regulations. One city (Omaha) and one county (Lincoln-Lancaster) have their own asbestos requirements.

          State/Federal Agencies Involved with the State Asbestos Program

          The following agencies/entities have asbestos-related regulatory and enforcement responsibilities in Nebraska:

          A. The Nebraska Health and Human Services System (contact phone (402) 471-0548 , general phone (402) 471-0386) is involved in the following state/federal asbestos enforcement/requirements:
        • training courses - personnel must take a 4 hour AHERA refresher course to be certifies in the Nebraska. The state training course program for asbestos personnel is currently pending approval by the EPA Region 7.

          Laboratory Requirements

          There are no state-specific accreditation requirements for laboratories and analysts performing asbestos analyses.
