Environmental Drilling Service Inc. (EDS) is a professional drilling firm specializing in the areas of environmental and geotechnical drilling for ground water studies, monitor well installations, recovery well installations and specialized soil sampling. Drilling techniques include the use of hollow stem augers, mud rotary, filtered air and filtered reverse air.
With six drilling rigs, fully equipped support trailers and Ford Super Duty flat bed trucks, EDS has the capabilities of drilling to depths in excess of 2,000 feet. These rigs are conveniently located in Orlando, Florida and Mobile, Alabama, making it possible to easily travel within one day anywhere in the southeastern United States.
EDS has extensive experience in installing ground water monitoring wells. They have installed 3/4 to 12-inch diameter monitor and recovery wells individually and in clusters, to depths of over 450 feet using hollow-stem augers, rotary wash, reverse air, and down-hole hammer drilling procedures. Well installation materials have included PVC, stainless steel, teflon and black steel with silica sand and gravel packs, bentonite seals, annular grouts and protective locking covers. They have installed PVC, black steel and stainless steel surface casings to seal off possible contaminated upper aquifers from deeper clean aquifers. EDS also uses 10 1/4-inch inside diameter hollow-stem augers to install 6 or 8- inch surface casings or wells without the use of drilling fluids. Well development is accomplished by bailing, surging, swabbing, air-lift, and pumping.
EDS has also used packers for discrete sampling in open hole completions (as well as screened wells) and for pneumatic fracturing. EDS has instituted an emergency response program, giving clients the ability to get in touch with key people at EDS at night or weekends, seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, in the event of an emergency.
