Abstract:

The National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) provides customers with access to global databases of physical, chemical, and biological ocean data, as well as to numerous individual data sets and data products. The NODC holds data from the ocean water column extending from the sea surface to the sea floor.
          There are three ways to access the data:

          1. Selected NODC data are available online via the NODC Web site. Some of these include:
        • NODC Catalog - searchable database of information about data sets in the NODC archive.
        • Global Temperature and Salinity Profile Program (GTSPP) - provides access to upper ocean observations from an international program.
        • NOAA CoastWatch Archive and Access System (NCAAS) - a system for accessing near-real-time sea surface temperature analyses for U.S. coastal regions.
        • Joint Archive for Shipboard ADCP - provides access to ocean current data from shipboard ADCP (Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers).

          2. Major collections of NODC data are also available for purchase on CD-ROM. An online order form is available at the web site. Below is a summary list of the CD-ROM data products currently available from the NODC:

        • Oceanographic Station Profile Time Series
        • GEOSAT Altimeter Crossover Differences from the Geodetic Mission
        • NSWC Moored ADCP Data 1994-1995
        • Global Ocean Temperature and Salinity Profiles

          3. The NODC can produce customized CD-ROMs holding data selected from its archive databases.
