Abstract:

Geomagnetism, the oldest branch of geophysics, has been used for centuries as an aid to navigation. Today, geomagnetic data are used in a variety of ways; for example, in remote sensing applications, global climate changes, dating archaeological artifacts and zoological studies. Geomagnetic observatory data include secular change data, mathematical models of the Earth's magnetic field, magnetic field survey data, and geomagnetic variation data. They have numerous datum, accuracies, resolution and sources.

These data bases include: 1) Secular change data such as observatory annual means, and international repeat station records. 2) Mathematical models of the Earth's magnetic field. 3) Magnetic field survey data taken from world surveys worldwide. Most of these observations include declination and horizontal intensity, or declination horizontal intensity and vertical or total intensity. 4) Geomagnetic variation data including copies of magnetograms, 2.5 and 1.0 minute data, hourly values and various magnetic indices.
