Abstract:

The ECOTOX Database consists of three EPA datafiles: AQUIRE, PHYTOTOX, and TERRETOX. The ECOTOX database includes over 200,000 records of chemical-specific toxicity values for aquatic organisms (AQUIRE), terrestrial plants (PHYTOTOX), and wildlife species (TERRETOX). This database is useful in developing consistent ecosystem management decisions within EPA and other federal, state, local, and international governmental agencies. ECOTOX provides the means to cost-effectively collect standardized and critically needed effects data for a wide variety of ecological risk assessments.

          How To Access The Data

There are several ways to access the data:

          1. Currently the databases are only available through a telnet/dial-up link. Access to the ECOTOX database is available from EPA without cost to all government entities and their contractors. Private organizations and individuals may obtain access to all or portions of ECOTOX through commercial database vendors such as Chemical Information Systems, Inc. (Oxford Molecular) or Technical Database Services, Inc.

          2. ECOTOX is now accessible through the Numerica cluster of online services from Technical Database Services, Inc (TDS) at http://www.tds-tds.com/tdsnews.htm. This Web site provides details about searching the ECOTOX databases.

          3. In the summer of 1998, Chemical Information Systems, Inc. is planning to have ECOTOX available on the Internet. The Oxford Molecular Group web site http://www.oxmol.com has information on Chemical Information Systems in the "Products" section of the Web site.
