Abstract:

EPA's Region 9 office is responsible for EPA regional programs within Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, American Samoa, and Guam. Region 9 is headquartered in San Francisco, California, and includes the following offices and divisions:

          Air Division (indoor and outdoor air quality, radiation, radon, control of air pollution from stationary and mobile sources, stratospheric ozone protection under the Clean Air Act)

          Cross Media Division (enforcement, certification and training, protection of endangered species, protection of ground water, worker protection program, pesticides program, Brownfields, agriculture initiative, toxics programs related to lead, asbestos, PCBs, and the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), the Toxics Substances Control Act (TSCA), and EPA's regulations.)

          Office of Policy and Management (health and safety, computer systems, human resources)

          Office of the Regional Administrator (includes the Office of Communication and Government Relations, the Office of Strategic Planning and Emerging Issues, and the Office of Regional Counsel)

          Water Division (preventing, reducing and regulating contamination of surface and ground water, watersheds, lakes, rivers, estuaries, oceans, and wetlands under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and the 1987 amendments to the Clean Water Act (CWA), wastewater treatment, oil spill prevention, development of drinking water quality standards)

          Waste Division (solid and hazardous waste programs, waste reduction and recycling, pollution prevention, underground storage tank program, Superfund and emergency response programs, cleanup of major hazardous waste sites, emergency response to oil and chemical spills, and oversight of cleanups at federal facilities under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know (EPCRA), and the Oil Pollution Act of 1990).
