Abstract:

The OSHA Office of Training and Education offers occupational safety and health training and training programs to Federal and State OSHA personnel, State consultants, other Federal agency personnel, and private sector employers and employees.

          The Office of Training and Education:
        • Offers short-term training through the OSHA Training Institute, located in Des Plaines, Illinois;
        • Provides training and education grants to nonprofit organizations; and
        • Develops training materials for use by OSHA field offices and private sector personnel.

          The Office of Training and Education programs:
        • Provide short-term basic and advanced training courses to a constituency consisting of Federal and State OSHA personnel, State consultants, other Federal agency personnel, and personnel from the private sector.
        • Offer a variety of courses covering such areas as OSHA inspection policies and procedures, biological hazards, ergonomics, petrochemical hazards, fire protection, and fall protection.
        • Administer the OSHA Training Institute Education Centers program in which designated nonprofit organizations offer the most frequently requested OSHA Training Institute courses for the private sector and other Federal agency personnel.
        • Administer the agency's discretionary grants programs.
        • Coordinate the train-the-trainer outreach training programs in construction and general industry.
        • Develop training strategies on new agency initiatives and standards.
        • Develop safety and health training materials for use by Federal staff and for outreach initiatives to the public.
        • Develop self-study, refresher training, and reference materials for OSHA staff.
