The International Standards Organization (ISO) is an international federation of standards bodies from 111 member countries. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is the United States representative to the ISO. The ISO is dedicated to promoting standardization in order to facilitate international trade. ISO has developed the ISO 14000 Series of standards which provide specific requirements for environmental management. The ISO 14000 Series consists of individual standards (ISO 14001 through ISO 14060) which address specific environmental management issues, such as: Environmental Management Systems; Environmental Auditing; Environmental Site Assessments; Environmental Performance Evaluation; Environmental Labeling; and others. Although some of these standards are still in development, fifteen are currently available for purchase from ANSI.
