Overview of State and Local Regulations

          New Jersey has state asbestos regulations that have additional requirements for asbestos management and notifications compared to the federal regulations. Counties and cities in New Jersey should be contacted for additional requirements.

          State/Federal Agencies Involved with the State Asbestos Program

          The following agencies/entities have asbestos-related regulatory and enforcement responsibilities in New Jersey:

          A. The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, Consumer and Environmental Health Services (general phone (609) 633-2043, general phone (609) 984-2193) is involved in the following state/federal asbestos enforcement/requirements:
        • training courses - The state training course program for asbestos personnel is partially approved by the EPA Region 2.
