This online Compendium outlines key hazardous substance and waste remedy publications, databases, and Internet home pages for Federal Facilities’ remedial managers to use as key reference(s) to guide their supervision of the remediation of hazardous waste sites. The resources in this Compendium were recommended by Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER) and Federal Facilities Restoration and Reuse Office (FFRRO) staff, both at Headquarters and in the regions. These key resources will assist the remedial manager to plan, implement, and oversee both immediate and long-term remedial actions, with a focus on the selection of remedies. This Compendium includes resources produced by EPA’s FFRRO, Technology Innovation Office, Office of Emergency and Remedial Response, Office of Underground Storage Tanks, OSWER, and Office of Research and Development, as well as the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, and the Federal Remediation Technologies Roundtable.
The resources are organized by the following subject topics: remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS), which includes risk assessment, ground water, soil, and presumptive remedies; removal/interim cleanup measures; remedy selection; record of decision; remedial design/action process; air emissions; underground storage tanks; innovative technologies; post-remedial actions; federal facilities/interagency guidance; quality assurance; databases/users’ manuals; and Internet home pages. Accompanying each publication or resource is a short abstract that highlights key aspects of its subject matter and any unique characteristics about its format or content. A comprehensive index is presented at the end of the Compendium, which has been organized around key topic areas with extensive cross-referencing to ensure ease of use.
The full text of some of the publications listed in the Compendium can be obtained online by clicking on the title using a standard web browser. In addition, at the end of this Compendium is a description of how copies of each publication can be obtained. Single printed copies of many of the documents listed in the compendium can be ordered at no cost from the National Center for Environmental Publications and Information (NCEPI). Documents not available from NCEPI can be purchased from the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) or the Government Printing Office (GPO).
