Overview of State Regulations
Montana has state regulations in addition to having adopted Federal EPA regulations for asbestos. The state is NESHAP-delegated by the EPA Region 8.
State/Federal Agencies Involved with the State Asbestos Program
The following agencies/entities have asbestos-related regulatory and enforcement responsibilities in Montana:
A. The Montana Department of Environmental Quality, Air and Waste Management (contact phone (406) 444-2690, general phone (406) 444-6697) is involved in the following state/federal asbestos enforcement/requirements:
- training courses - The state training course program for asbestos personnel is fully approved by the EPA Region 8.

Laboratory Requirements
Check with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, Air and Waste Management for state accreditation requirements for laboratories and analysts.
