An annual publication that shows statistics related to the Bureau's management of approximately 270 million acres of public lands and 300 million acres of additional subsurface mineral estate during a given fiscal year. "Public Land Statistics, 1990" describes the management of the public lands (the 1990 edition featured 68 tables and narratives). Originally published in 1816, the publication continues to serve as a valuable information resource on the management of the nation's public lands. Topics include:
- Fish and wildlife habitat management, which provides data on types of wildlife habitat, number of wildlife habitat improvement projects, and number of plant and animal species that are threatened and endangered.
- Outdoor recreation, which features data on recreation visits to public lands and developed recreation sites administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
- Range management, which features tables on grazing permits and range condition.
- Forest management, which features data on timber sales and forest development.
- Wilderness resources, which includes an update on wilderness study area status and wilderness designations.
- Energy and mineral resources, which includes information on competitive and noncompetitive oil and gas leases in effect, coal leases in effect, and mineral patents.
