In Palintest color match tests, the Photometer 7000 is used to measure the color produced when reagent tablets for specific analytes are added to the sample solution. In these tests the color intensity if proportional to the concentration of the analyte under test.
The photometer is pre-programmed with calibrations for a wide variety of test parameters. The test calibrations are assessed by entering a unique program number at the start of each test. In this way the photocell response is converted to a concentration reading and the instrument display gives a direct reading of the test result.
The Palintest Photometer 7000 is an instrument for measuring color intensity. Light from an incandescent lamp passes through a test tube containing the sample solution, and then through a colored filter onto a photocell. Five built-in filters offer a choice of wavelengths covering the visible spectrum. When the solution is completely colorless, all of the light passes through the sample. With colored solutions light of certain wavelengths is absorbed and that which passes through the sample is proportionately reduced.
The following chemical contaminants can be identified using the Photometer 7000 after extraction to an aqueous sample:
Alkalinity, Alkalinity M, Alkalinity P, Aluminum, Ammonia, Boron, Bromine, Calcium, Chemical Oxygen Demand, Chloride, Chlorine DPD, Chlorine HR, Chlorine dioxide, Copper, Color/Turbidity, Cyanuric Acid, Dissolved Oxygen, Fluoride, Hardness, Hydrazine, Hydrogen Peroxide LR, Hydrogen Peroxide HR, Iron LR, Iron HR, Magnesium, Manganese, Molybdate LR, Molybdate HR, Nitrate, Nitrite, Organophosphonate, Ozone pH, PHMB, Phosphate LR, Phosphate HR, Potassium, Silica, Sulphate Sulphide, Sulphite and Zinc.

Analyses are based on a set sample volume. If less volume is available, results must be adjusted accordingly. Analyses of concentrations higher than the upper limit can only be performed by dilution of the sample.
