VISITT is a database developed the Technology Innovation Office within the U.S. EPA's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response as part of a broad effort to promote the use of innovative treatment technologies for the cleanup of soil and groundwater contaminated by hazardous and petroleum waste. The database is designed to capture current information on the availability, performance, and cost of innovative technologies to remediate contaminated waste sites. It contains information provided by vendors of innovative technologies for the treatment of ground water in-situ, as well as soils, sludge, and sediments. The database allows users to screen innovative technologies for application to specific sites, to assess cost and performance, and to identify vendors who provide hazardous waste cleanup services. VISITT also gives innovative technology companies an opportunity to market their capabilities. The database contains information provided voluntarily by technology vendors.

          Some of the technologies contained in the VISITT database have been entered into the Vendor Technologies Category of EnviroSources as separate sources.

          Downloading VISITT
          Two versions of VISITT are available, 5.0 and 6.0. The 6.0 version is Windows based. VISITT is provided on computer diskette free-of-charge to the public, or can be downloaded from EPA's Cleanup Information (CLU-IN) Bulletin Board System at:

          http://www.prcemi.com/visitt (for either version).

          If you download VISITT 5.0, you may encounter problems with initiating the application. Call the hotline at (800) 245-4505 and leave a message stating your situation. The attendant can help you make a very quick screen setup change that will allow the application to run smoothly.

Limitations:

The information in the database should be used for initial screening purposes only. Contact the technology vendor for the most up to date information on technologies. Phone numbers and Internet links, if available, are provided in the database.

          Maneuvering in the VISITT 5.0 database is relatively cumbersome for Windows users. With a little practice, it becomes quite easy to use the arrow, escape, and enter keys to move through the search selection criteria and technology record screens.
