The mission of the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) is to advance public understanding of environmental issues by improving the quality, accuracy, and visibility of environmental reporting.
SEJ provides critical support to journalists of all media in their efforts to cover complex issues of the environment responsibly. Through combined efforts of board, staff, membership and appropriate partners, SEJ offers unique educational programs and services including national and regional conferences, quarterly SEJournal, online resources, research projects and a lively membership network of journalists and academics.
SEJ acts to raise awareness among editors and other key decision makers in the media on the basic importance of environmental reporting. SEJ's purpose is to enable journalists to better inform the public about critical issues concerning the environment. SEJ's membership of more than 1,000 includes journalists working for newspapers, television and radio stations, broadcast and cable networks, magazines, newsletters, wire services and photo agencies, as well as educators and students. Non-members are welcome to attend SEJ's conferences and to subscribe to its quarterly publication.
SEJ has several Internet mailing lists and a discussion group. The SEJ discussion list for environmental journalism, limited to SEJ members and members of the International Federation of Environmental Journalists who meet SEJ membership standards. |
