Overview of State Regulations

          Illinois has state asbestos regulations for asbestos. The state is NESHAP-delegated by the EPA Region 5.

          State/Federal Agencies Involved with the State Asbestos Program

          The following agencies/entities have asbestos-related regulatory and enforcement responsibilities in Illinois:

          A. The Illinois Department of Public Health, Division of Environmental Health, Asbestos (contact phone (217) 782-3517) is involved in the following state/federal asbestos enforcement/requirements:
        • training courses - The state training course program for asbestos personnel is fully approved by the EPA Region 5.
        • certifications

        • pre-abatement notifications/approvals

        • sampling/site clearance requirements
