Technology Description: | |
Wilks Enterprises, Inc. has developed a portable infrared analyzer for on-site part per million (ppm) oil and grease determinations in water for current EPA Methods 413.2 and 418.1 using Freon 113 extraction or a newly-proposed hexane extraction/infrared sample card procedure. The same analyzer can be used for both the Freon and hexane methods simply by changing the sample stage/detector which takes just a few minutes. |

Performance Status:
Infrared analysis is an accepted method for oil and grease determinations in water and has been widely used as a rapid screening tool, both for on-site and laboratory testing, instead of time-consuming gravimetric sampling methods. The instrument is mostly used for analyzing water matrices, however its capabilities can easily be used with soil matrices as well.
