Overview of State Regulations
Connecticut has adopted Federal EPA regulations as state regulations for asbestos. The state is NESHAP-delegated by the EPA Region 1.
State/Federal Agencies Involved with the State Asbestos Program
The following agencies/entities have asbestos-related regulatory and enforcement responsibilities in Connecticut:
A. The Connecticut Department of Public Health, Division of Environmental Health, Indoor Air/Asbestos/Radon (general phone (860) 509-7367) is involved in the following state/federal asbestos enforcement/requirements:
- pre-abatement notifications/approvals
- NESHAP/demolition/renovation/wet/tag/bag/bury
- AHERA/schools
- site audit/inspections
- sampling/site clearance requirements

Laboratory Requirements
The state has requirements for laboratory accreditations to perform asbestos analyses.
